If you’re like me, then you’re crazy obsessed with everything Disney (which c’mon let’s be real, no problem at all right?) Also, you’re probably driving yourself insane waiting for applications to come out, even though we as Fall 2013 hopefuls have around 180 days until that happens. I’ve made up a list of things (in no particular order) you can do to occupy yourself until the day gets closer, while still keeping your Disney love alive! I’ll also be making a vlog with this list in it, in case you don’t feel like reading the novel I’ve typed :)
Things to do while waiting for Disney College Program applications to be released!
· Watch vlogs/ read blogs (this is a great way to stay informed about the DCP and see other current cast members or hopefuls talk about their journey. Just go to YouTube and search something like ‘disney college program fall 2013’ and so on)
· Play disney video games (maybe this is just because I’m a little kid at heart, but I will forever love Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. The story is amazing and it also incorporates Disney characters into it. So it’s a win win. Another fun one is called Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure. It’s awesome dude. You get to create a character and travel through different Disney worlds on a skateboard. I don’t know about you, but it made me feel pretty badass to do an ollie with Simba in the pridelands. There are more that you could find, I’m sure. It all depends on if you want to do this!
· Read Disney nonfiction and fiction books (I included this because I work in a library so I’m constantly around books. But I’ve discovered that there are soooo many books out there about the Disney Company, the characters, and even Walt himself. I like knowing Disney history, haha it interests me. Another series to look into, although it’s technically a kids series, is called Kingdom Keepers by Ridely Pearson. I’m only on the first book but I can tell you it’s a grand old time)
· Visit Disney websites (This is again for someone who is interested in knowing the history of the Disney Company. I’m talking specifically thewaltdisneycompany.com, and going to ‘about disney’ tab. There’s a bunch of information just waiting to be discovered!)
· Make vlogs/ blog (I didn’t tell you guys this, but right now as you read this, I’m secretly using you to pass the million of days between myself and applications. Well.. I guess it’s not so secret anymore… um, this is awkward… haha ;))
· Join the DCP facebook group (you can join the semester specific group or the general Disney College Program one, or both! It’s a pretty neat way to meet other people in the same boat as yourself)
· Make friends with other hopefuls (This is basically what I was talking about. It’s always fun and comforting to know you have friends across the world who are just as excited as you are for the same thing. It’s awesome to know you always have someone to turn to! Shoutout to Addy & Jordan, my first DCP friends! :) :))
· Follow Disney College Program accounts (twitter: DisneyCPInterns, youtube: dineycpinters, facebook: disneycollegeprogram)
· Follow general Disney social networking accounts ( I’m always tweeting so I only can tell you some fun twitter accounts: disneyparks, disneyweddings, wdwupdates, srsounds, waltdisneyworld, and one of my favorites: disneywords – Disney quotes!)
· Listen to Disney music! (this is something I do daily, just because I loveee Disney music. It makes me so happy! One of the greatest discoveries I have found was this website called srsounds.com it’s also called sorcererradio, and can be downloaded as an app on the Iphone. It doesn’t work on droid the last time I checked, sadly. They play classic Disney and Disney park music honestly 24/7. It’s a beautiful thing. Another place to look is a site called 8tracks.com here you could search Disney music and find probably a million playlists to satisfy your Disney craving. Last but not least, there’s a CD set called Classic Disney, which is amazing. I think there are 5 different Cd’s total.)
· Watch Disney movies (this is a no brainer! Besides the classic animated Disney movies, I suggest giving the older live action Disney movies a shot also. I recently watched a bunch of Haley Mills ones and fell in love. Especially Summer Magic and Moonspinners. They’re the type of movies that just make you feel so genuinely happy :) also, you’ll be increasing your Disney knowledge, woo!)
· Grow your hair as long as Rapunzel’s (this one is kind of a joke. Well, unless you want to then all power to you! and if you don’t think you’re up for this challenge just yet, I’m sure you could shoot for Jasmine’s length)
· Visit Disney World or Disneyland (I know this isn’t an option for everyone, but hey what better way is there to keep Disney magic alive than being in the parks? If you really are going to be at one of the parks before applications come out, I’ll be in Disney World in 142 days ;), then there are some things you can do while down there. Talk to any cast members you see with a school name under their actual name instead of a city for example: ‘Tricia; I’m-So-Amazingly-Cool-University’, that means they are a Disney College Program participant. I’m sure they’d be more than willing to answer any questions you have!)
· Visit your school’s career center/meet with an advisor (this is for when applications are just about to come out. It’s always best to talk to someone official at your school to make sure everything will transfer okay if you are going to take classes, and just for the program in general)
· Go to your school’s Disney College Program presentation (this usually happens after applications are out, but it’s still a great way to go and talk to your campus representatives about their experience and any questions you may have. Also, it’s awesome, duh)
Welllll I think that is all I can come up with for now! I’m sure I will think of more as the time passes, that I will add. I promise there is way more to me than just my Disney love! haha so if you are interested in getting to know me, here’s a link to my personal tumblr: here you’ll see I’m pretty awesome and hilarious. At least I like to tell myself that. And as always, my ask box is open and welcoming to anyone who wants to chat!
Thaaaat’s it guys :)
